Robin Phinney

President, Director and Chairman of the Board

Robin_Phinney2Mr. Phinney started his career in mining with Vale Inco and Kidd Creek Mines studying base metal purification. Mr. Phinney subsequently held various engineering positions through his 15 years at Potash Corp, which included being responsible for streamlining production, new product development, evaluating engineering proposals, supplying technical support to Potash Corp sales, and performing detailed process designs. Mr. Phinney served as the Director of Technology of Airborne Technologies Inc. from 1998 to 2003. In 2003, he co-founded Whitemud Resources Inc., a mining and manufacturing company listed on the TSX Venture Exchange, where he developed a new process to produce quality metakaolin for the concrete industry from Saskatchewan kaolin resources. Then, in 2007, he founded Karnalyte Resources to explore the development of the carnallite/sylvinite resource within the Karnalyte Property, and has developed patent pending technology that is anticipated to produce high quality fertilizer products. Mr. Phinney holds a BSc degree in Chemical Engineering and is a member of APEGA.

Henry Kerkhoven

Henry Kerkhoven (B. Sc., B.Comm, MBA) was the former VP Administration and Chief Financial Officer of Karnalyte, as well as a former Karnalyte director, holding executive positions at Karnalyte from 2008 until 2012. Mr. Kerkhoven has acted as an independent Project Management consultant for more than 10 years and, prior thereto for more than 20 years at CP Railway. Mr. Kerkhoven holds a Bachelor of Science (1971), Bachelor of Commerce (1972) and Masters of Business Administration (1984) from Concordia University in Quebec and is a certified Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute (1999).

Sokuen Sue Ng


Sue_SokuenSokuen Sue Ng (FSA, FCIA) is a senior consulting actuary and a private investor since 2008. Ms. Ng is an experienced financial and operational leader with a broad understanding of international business. In 1979, she received a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo and since 1984 has been a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA).

Ms. Ng served as Chief Actuary at John Hancock Tianan in Shanghai, China, a joint venture established by John Hancock (later merged with Manulife Financial) and Tian An Ltd, from 2006 to 2008, before she formed her own consulting firm. Prior thereto, Ms. Ng was a consultant and the Assistant Vice President of Manulife Financial in Hong Kong for seven years. From 1987 to 1999, Ms. Ng held various positions in Manulife’s Canadian head office before being promoted to Assistant Vice President and moved to Hong Kong.

Vishvesh D. Nanavaty

Vishvesh_NatavatyVishvesh D. Nanavaty is the General Manager of Finance and Chief Finance Officer at Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC), a large joint-sector company with more than US$1 billion turnover, and Karnalyte’s strategic partner. Prior to his role as General Manager of Finance, Mr. Nanavaty was GSFC’s Company Secretary, and before joining GSFC, was Senior Finance Manager and Company Secretary at Johnson Pump (India) Ltd. Mr. Nanavaty is a Chartered Accountant, and received a First Class Commerce degree from The Gujarat University, The Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India and The Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

Sanjeev V Varma


Sanjeev_VarmaSanjeev V Varma is Vice President (Finance) at Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC), a large joint-sector company with more than US$1 billion turnover, and Karnalyte’s strategic partner. Mr Varma did his Bachelor of Engineering from Sardar Patel University, Gujarat, India in 1990 and joined GSFC as a Trainee Engineer. While serving at GSFC, he did his Master of Business Administration (Finance) in 2002 from MS University Baroda securing Gold Medals for his academic achievements and since then he is working in the Finance Department of GSFC. He is presently heading the Budget & Project Financing Sections of the Company. He has rich experience of about 25 years as a techno-commercial executive in a big Petrochemical & Fertilizer Complex which includes Project Implementation right from the stage of conceiving till commissioning, Maintenance, Budgeting, Project Financing and Strategic Decision making.
